Sleep Disorders in Children

Young children spend most of their time sleeping, especially infants  and babies, where the number of hours of sleep ranges between 14 to 16 hours for newborns up to the age of three years, newborns sleep about 5 hours straight . 

this is due to the body's need for sleep in these age stages, where the brain is in its very rapid stages of growth, thus, sleep is very important for mental, physical and psychological health. Then, after that, the need for sleep decreases with age, reaching 8 - 10 hours a day for adults .
About a quarter of children suffer from sleep disorders, and sleep disturbances in children appear in the child not taking enough rest and sleep or excessive sleepiness .

There are several signs that a child is suffering from sleep disorders, this disorder is particularly common for children between the ages of 3 and 5, however, this does not mean that children in other age groups are not affected by these disorders .

, however, with the developments in the fields of medical diagnosis, it is better to consult specialized doctors and specialized clinics for diagnosing sleep disorders .
 What is known as polysomnography is used
, which records brain waves and measures the level of oxygen in the blood, heart rate and breathing, eye and foot movement are also measured .  

Measuring sleep disorders is useful in diagnosing the disease and its cause, thus helping to develop an appropriate treatment plan if the disease is confirmed .

Sleep disorders appear in children in the way they sleep, where the child may suffer from excessive sleepiness, and his inability to resist it, including during the day.                                                                On the other hand, the disturbance may be in the form of intermittent sleep times, during which the child wakes up several times in the night and finds it difficult to return to sleep, which may take hours.
